Physical body production

Idea

A stage dance production called "Physical Body". The production aims to showcase the human body in all of it's exquisite physicality: control, strength, flexibility, sensuality, coordination. This is achieved by taking a multi-disciplined approach to performace by using a body builder, yoga practitioner, gymnast, stripper, dancer. There should be a good gender balance between the disciplines. Each of these disciplines can show off one or more of these aspects. The object is to get all walks of the audience to appreciate all that is being displayed. eg. why can't straight guys enjoy a male stripper, why can't yobs enjoy yoga, etc...

Detail

The show should maintain the purity of each of the disciplines lest the audience suspects the production of being to voyeristic. However, the disciplines should be mixed into an artistic vision which is culturally worthy and exciting/pleasing/exhilarating. Hopefully it would have broad appeal to the average person (men and women) or maybe it would just appeal to those who love the body. The mood is undoubtedly sensual and sensuality flows from the physical. This is similar to ancient Greek gymnasts. It is also a spectacle in the same way that private circuses have been for royalty.

Parabolas in action

Railway lines lessen the quality of life for residents through noise pollution.

Idea

Railway lines to have better fences and sound reflecting parabolas to lessen noise pollution and improve life for residents. The deflectors can take the horizonatal noise and deflect it skyward.

Problem

This would be expensive but would have a net positive gain as the utility for succssive generations would outweigh cost/maintenance. The vibrations would not be diminished and perhaps this would defeat the idea.

Who knows

Idea

A game where successive players must say the name of someone associated to the previously mentioned person. If a player thinks that the association is dubious they can "challenge" and the player must justify the association. If they can't justify then the challenger wins. A player is allowed 3 challenges. On the third unsuccessful challenge the challenger loses. If a player cannot think of an associate person then they lose. If a player cannot think of a person on the second turn then the game is null.

Picture Display

Idea

A small internet connected computer with wifi is used to serve images to a screen, ideally a plasma screen hanging on a wall. The network can be used as a source of data to display images which may reflect the season, the weather, one's personal photographic collection or one's mood. Maybe it even synchs in with imagery associated with sounds that might be playing.

Detail

The user would need to be able to configure the device so that they can specify what iomages are to be displayed: local folder, URL, list of URLs, season/weather/mood server. Also timing, transition effects.

Implementation

A cheap small linux computer which can connect to the internet. It might have a hard disk and a webserver so that images can be ftped to it so that it can also act as a source of images.

Problems

Maybe this can be done already with consumer hardware that is out there. Games consoles can connect to the web. MP3 and phones can store images. They just need a little bit of software and the right hardware connection. This idea is different in that it can connect to a remote server and serve files that the user has never seen before. It can certainly be done with an ordinary computer and as media centers become more popular they will win out. Maybe a simple client (web browser) and some server software is what is required.

Refinement

So what we have left is just a website capabale of serving images from various sources.

Diamond rock

Apparently extremely flawed diamonds are almost worthless as they have no ornamental value. Not sure if the have industrial value. Some of them get to large sizes - 5 carets.

Idea

It might be possible to find a source of these large, uncut, flawed diamonds for a cheap price and use them to create a more organic form of jewelry. ie. The diamond is not being used to display its brilliantly clear refractive properties. It is being used as a signifyier of something eternal and earthy. Setting these stones simply could result in a post greed symbol of eternity. It would be gratifying to turn even a flawed large diamond in your hand.

Carbon Carbon

I just went to visit the diamond exhibition at the Museam of Natural History in London. The Millenium Diamond was on display along with a number of others. This idea is not new - it is a rehash of a piece of jewelry I saw at the exhibition. The jewelry in this case was a number of coal pieces wrapped with diamond studded braces. The pieces were strung together to forma necklace.

Idea

This can be simplified to setting a single diamond in a piece of coal. The black would contrast nicely with the diamond. The coal (about the size of a large marble) would be wrapped in platinum braces and held by a single discrete chain.
