A personal project which glues together web services from different sources. Primarily, veryhappening.com uses Google to rate various things (people, bands, companies, characters, shows, etc) by recording the number of "hits" a thing receives. Who do you think the most popular person is? Amazon web services are used to provide recommendations for each thing and category. I have also hooked into the Technorati API to provide users with info on the latest chatterings in the blog world. Finally, RSS feeds from the Yahoo Buzz are used to identify which things are currently buzzing in the internet world. I am currently working on adding racial, national, gender and birthdate (star sign) metadata to the top people so that I can break down the results for people according to these dimensions. Early results indicate that the net is white, male, American and aged about 50 :)
A personal project of mine dedicated to all things topic maps. I don't tend to bore people as much these days about my passion for them but I'm still very interested nonetheless. topicmap.com provides info on topic map software, vendors, resources, tutorials and news.
A picture's worth a thousand words. This little web page takes a JPEG image and converts it to an ASCII representation. You can upload your own image and supply the text which will make up the completed image.
A calculator that compares rates of return for property and shares. It's based on capital and income growth, expenses, capital gains, negative gearing and inflation. Lies damn lies and statistics comes to mind. Fill in the blanks according to you prejudices.
A calculator that takes a best guess at the current price for a property based on land and building values, amenity, depreciation, rent, repairs and emotion. It then compares this value to the value required for a resonable rate of return (which in turn was derived from the Propety vs Shares calculator). As at 2005 I calculated that property in Sydney needed to fall another 30% (after falling 7% to Mar 2005) or so for long term investment rationality. I also note that there are counter factors which will retard this complete fall. Maybe it will fall another 15-20%? Time will tell. What a bear I am.
I used to work with Kieran Dyson and Aaron Curnow on a music fanzine called Spunk. We published 6 issues and a few 7 inches before it disbanded in 1996. The current website doesn't contain any of my work as the site is now used by Aaron for his own touring and promotions company - a fine one it is at that.
